something is still wrong, and I don't know what.

my favorite explanation of one of the fundamental behaviours associated with borderline personality disorder is this: animals, they say, have no awareness of your existence if you're not in their sight. once you are removed from view, you cease to exist in their world. Except with borderline personality disorder, they latch on and form intense relationships with others - so remove that person from view and it's like they themselves don't exist. a person with borderline personality defines themself by who is in view. alone, they have no self-identity.
