it's daring to write it down but this has been happening, slowly, since a nation was shocked at people who wanted to make them afraid by running planes into buildings

i think maybe, it was the shock that something like that could happen that was the outlier

anyone who's been somewhere else in the world, somewhere different, blinked and thought, 'wow, they managed to do it'

so, that happened.

it's been happening slowly, for even longer than that, though. still, this is the closest I've come to saying aloud: "even though I like to play Fallout, that doesn't mean I want to live there" and not have it be a joke.

well. since that fictional cbc miniseries about america coming to take all canada's fresh water in a bloodless coup, anyway. I'm in a place where nuclear winter seems less of a threat, since russia doesn't seem like much of a target anymore.

so much for visiting new york next summer.
